This hearty ceremonial-grade matcha (from the heart of Uji, Kyoto - the matcha capital of the world) brews a deeply rich emerald green cordial with a robust body, sweet-savoury undertones and a bouquet of floral notes and delicate tannins.

Iridescent green in colour, Meiko™ (an epithet referencing to the beautiful budding of a flowering plant) is masterfully blended to create a well-defined, flavoursome brew with sweet, mellow top notes, followed by savoury undertones of salted caramel and with floral hints of tannins complementing the finish. This matcha is characterised by its remarkable ooika fragrance, a captivatingly refreshing aroma found only in the most exceptional shade-grown green tea. Perfect to be brewed on its own or enjoyed as part of a plethora of health elixirs of choice.

  • Why does Fressco promote this producer ?

Matchæologist is an artisanal Japanese matcha green tea brand that focuses on premium-quality matcha and contemporary matcha-ware products. They specialise in producing the purest and most potent form of green tea at the highest-end of the quality spectrum, or what they call 'artisanal grade' matcha. Served by the world's leading tea sommeliers and highly regarded by tea connoisseurs, their range of matcha is acclaimed for its key differentiating characteristics — vivid pine green colour, refreshing 'ooika' (覆い香) aromas and an exquisite savoury 'umami' (うま味) flavour profile — a result of the meticulous process that starts with manually extracting only the most tender, highly prized parts of the virgin buds of shade-grown tea trees, and culminates in artisan-roasting each batch to perfection, to bring out the finest nuances of flavour in every roast. With the benefit of their years of experience, they provide unparalleled support, ranging from onboarding training and ongoing education to tea consultant services, including matcha master classes, workshops, and matcha tasting events.
